Images
‘Images’ provides pictures of the plants discussed. This feature can, for example, be used to visualise our explanations provided in the comment or to show how different some of the plants look which are referred to by the same name. The upload of images will be guided by the following categories: plant shoots, plant without flowers, plant with flowers, plant with seeds or fruit, and dried plant, plant and habitat. With this data we will not only be able to collect a homogeneous collection of plant images (showing the plant in different stages of growth and within its habitat) but it also will be an easy means to link an Old English plant-name to the present.
Presently we have added ‘stylised plates’ from 19th century florae, which show an idealised picture of the plant including leaves, flowers, and seeds for each botanically identifyed plant species. In cases where we only can determine a plant genus we try to add images of those species native in England in Anglo-Saxon times, these are listed in the comment.
The available images are linked to each identifyed species: we additionaly specify botanical information (stylised plate, plant shoots, plant without flowers, plant with flowers, plant with seeds or fruit, and dried plant, plant and habitat) and provides the image source.
