    Cf. the context in the LB: Eft genim clifwyrt, sume men hataþ foxes clife, sume eawyrt (18/27f). The identification of this OE plant name is secured by several glosses (cf. WW 134/3, 323/7; Dur 201).

    AGRIMONIA and →gār-clīfe denote Agrimonia eupatoria L., agrimony, Kleiner Odermennig, which also has bur-like fruits.

    On BLITUM and CLITUM cf. →clāte

    Etymology: cf. Holthausen (1974, s.v and p.419, s.v. clif).

    BT introduce this identification but it is wrong and probably a confusion with the OE plant name →foxes glofa. Lindheim's note (1941, n.16: "Ae. clifwyrt bedeutet ge­wöhnlich 'digitalis purpurea'") has to be corrected accordingly. In Dur 16 clif-wyrt glosses AGRIMONIA, i.e. Agrimonia eupatoria L., agrimony, Kleiner Odermennig.
