OE hamor can denote 'hammer' and 'cliff' none of which shows any connection to C. hirta. Is it another name for Typha L., bulrush, Rohrkolben, lit. 'hammer-sedge, Hammerschilf' (cf. →dy̅þ-hamor)?

The identification is based on the ModE plant name 'hammersedge' (cf. Britten / Holland 1886,240) a name for C. hirta.
