In this case crop, 'cluster', as part of the plant name, refers to the whole plant, not only to the berries. Banham (1990,130) suggests that the plant name denotes the raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) and compares the plant name to the name 'strawberry' where the whole plant is named after its fruit. Etymology: Lit. 'hart's umbel, Hirschdolde'; the name may refer to an umbellifer which can be connected to the concept 'hart', like for example Seseli libanotis (L.) Koch; seseli; Hirscheil-, Bergfenchel, Hirschwurz.
