  • Comment on (A): ? Rubus L., bramble, raspberry, Brombeere, Himbeere

In this case crop, 'cluster', as part of the plant name, refers to the whole plant, not only to the berries. Banham (1990,130) suggests that the plant name denotes the raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) and compares the plant name to the name 'strawberry' where the whole plant is named after its fruit. On general identification cf. →heorot-berie.

Etymology: Lit. 'hart's umbel, Hirschdolde'; the name may refer to an umbellifer which can be connected to the concept 'hart', like for example Seseli libanotis (L.) Koch; seseli; Hirscheil-, Bergfenchel, Hirschwurz.

  • Comment on (B): ?? Laserpitii flos, hartwort, cluster of ~ flowers, Breitblättriges Laserkraut, Blütendolde vom ~

Identification by Deegan (1988,II,394) without further explanation; Banham (1990,130) correctly notes that the attribution neoþeweardne suggests something that grows near the ground; the compound umbel of the hartwort, though, is situated on a high stem.
