  • Comment on (A): Alliaria petiolata (M. Bieb.) Cavara et Grande, garlic-mustard, Gewöhnliche Knoblauchrauke

Cf. Britten/Holland (1886/302f): "Leek-cress. An A.S. name for Alliaria officinalis Andrzj., a cress with an onion-like smell, which peculiarity is referred to in the Latin generic name. Cockayne, ii.397." The plant name is only accounted for in OE.

  • Comment on (B): ? Lepidium sativum L., garden-cress, Gartenkresse

OE lēac not only denotes plants of the Allium genus but can denote garden plants in general.[1] Therefore the meaning L. sativum cannot be ruled aut completely, also cf. the glosses NASTURTIUM, leaccerse, ID EST, tuncærse (WW 453/16f). OE →tūn-cærse (literally. 'garden cress, Gartenkresse') is L. sativum.
