  • Comment on (A): -, thicket, Dickicht

The prefix ge- seems to have collective function (cf. →wrīd), therfore I assume a long vowel for gewrīd (against BT, ClH, HEU).

Rusche (1996,642) suggests: "It seems far more preferable to take both instances of gewrid (here and at F361) as the same word, derived from gewridan, 'to grow, thrive, flourish' and to define it as 'something which has grown'. This definition fits at F361 and in the context here." Cf. →gewrīd (? 2).

In ClSt F 353 only the lemma FRUTECTA is recorded; cf. Stryker"s n.: "No gloss is given for the lemma." This is evidence that ClSt was not a direct model for D 11; Rusche (1996,635f.) refutes this.
