  • Comment on (A): -, plant, Pflanze

Cf. Cockayne's different translations 'bundle' (1961,I.217), 'shrub' (I.225), 'plant' (III,39; Grattan / Singer translate this passage (1952,157) with 'a clump of celandine root') but cf. our notes on these occurrances. L FRUTEX 'bush, shrub; Staude, Strauch'; L SURCULUS - '(young) twig, shoot; der (junge) Zweig, Schößling'; CULMUS = "stalk, haulm, Stängel, Halm" (cf. Georges 2007, s.v.). Based on ModE wride (cf. OED, s.v.) I assume a long vowel for wrīd (following BT and HEW, but against ClH).
