    Etymology: lit. 'five-leave, Fünfblatt'; most likely a loan translation of the L name, which refers to the eye-catching, hand-shaped leaves. The occurrences LB 23/4, 35/25 and 35/27 indicate a foreign name: 23/4: wyrt þe hatte fifleafe, 35/25 and 35/27: quinquefolian, þæt is fif-leafe. It is striking that the phrase þæt is fifleafe is used in sequenced recipes.
