Cockayne (1962,III,318) specifies Trifolium arvense, hare's foot clover, Hasen-Klee; BT, s.v. clæferwyrt Trifolium dubium Sibth., lesser trefoil, Kleiner Klee, both native to Anglo-Saxon England. The latter identification seems more plausible because of the considerable difference in height compared to other Trefoil species.
