    Cf. Britten / Holland (1886,495), s.v. windlestraws. The description þæt on worþium wixþ (OE worþig 'yardm farm; Hof, Wirtschaft') indicates a dry habitat.

    A possible meaning is 'corn stalk, Getreidehalm' bacause in ClQu the gloss follws immediately after FAAR spelt, SPICA ear, ARESTA egle. The lemma CALMUM is a corrupt CULMUS 'corn stalk, Halm des Getreides' or CALAMUS 'stalk, staff; Stengel, Stab' (cf. s.v. →hrēod). Also cf. OED s.v. windlestraw.

    Etymology: lit. 'basket streaw, Korbstroh'; the attribute twyecge 'double edged, zweischneidig' can refer to various grass species.
