    Cf. Hunt (1989,93): "CRISPINA ?Gooseberry ? Ribes uva-crispa L." Hunt refers to Bierbaumer (1979, s.v.). Also cf. an attempt at an explanation in Stracke (1974,n.375).

    Although native to EU and the BI the plant was not part of the medieval Materia Medica; Marzell (2000,3,1342), for example, only records popular names from the 16th century onwards.
