  • Comment on (A): Lathyrus L., vetchling, a species of ~, Platterbse, eine Art von ~

? = wilde pise. The plant name could denote L. sylvestris L., narrow-leaved everlasting pea, Wald-Platterbse. The lit. meaning 'wild sprout, stalk; wilder Sproß, Stengel' cannot logically be connected to Euphorbia lathyris L. (cf. →spring-wyrt), therefore I suggest that wildewise is a corrupted wilde →pise, which is not synonymous with sprincwert, but which could easily be a gloss to an original L lemma[1] LATHYRIS. The old name of E. lathyris was often confused with LATHYROS, the old name of the vetchling (cf. André 1985,s.v.).

The L names probably are not related to the OE plant names (cf. s.v. springwyrt).
