Cf. C 71.2, Meritt's note 73c,35: "On folio 37r some English words occur in context: FAC PULVEREM DE TEGULA ET DE liuerwurt ET DE feldwurt .I. lungewurt, also the words wudesura, hunicamb, and sprincwurt." The L lemma ATULENTA is not clear; PIS LINGUA (which Gough (n.45) cannot explain) = BISLINGUA (= Gk δίγλωσσν), is a well recorded old name for Ruscus hypoglossum L., spineless butcher's broom, Zungen-Mäusedorn (cf. Marzell 2000,3,1545); these names probably are not associated with springwyrt, becasue they are written in a separate line; R. hypoglossum can in no way be connected to E. lathyris. Pettit (2001,XXXI,126) points out that in ME the plant name denotes some mint species (water mint, horsemint) but does not elaborate this further.

Etymology: lit. 'jumpwort, Springwurz' (also NHG Springwurz); cf. Marzell (2000,II,383): "Die reifen Fruchtkapseln offnen sich und die Samen werden [...] herausgeschleudert (sie 'springen heraus')."
