The radical vowel of the determinative element is short, cf. NED, s.v. Theve-thorn. The frequently used L lemma RAMNUS is identical with Gk ράμνς (cf. André, s.v. RHAMNOS), wich is used in Dioscorides (I,119) to denote Rhamnus species (cf. Berendes 1902,107). Concerning other meanings cf. Laud, Dur, and the respecitve notes, as well as NED, s.v. Theve-thorn. In his glossary (2001,I,s.v.) Pettit suggests a species of Rubus L.; raspberry, blackberry; Himbeere, Brombeere as an alternative meaning, he probably bases this assumption on the lit. translation of the OE plant name 'bushy torn'.
