  • Comment on (A): Malus sylvestris (L.) Mill., crab-apple tree, Holzapfelbaum

The L lemma is erroneous for MALUS MATIANUS[1]; cf. Is. 17,7,3: MALA MATIANA A LOCO VOCATA UNDE PRIUS ADVECTA SUNT. According to André (1985, s.v. MALUM) MALUM MATIANUM is an indistinct apple species. The attribute sūrmelsc 'semi-sweet' which is used to define →apuldor denotes a different, not identifyable subspecies or the taste of the tree's fruit, →æppel, sūrmelsc.
