On the different Brassica species known to ancient Greeks and Romans cf. Fischer-Benzon (1998,112). The adjective englisc probably denotes a wild species in contrast to cultivated plants; but there is no record of a contrasting *wy̅lisc nǣp (cf. →more: englisc moru vs. wy̅lisc moru. In his comment on ClSt N37 Rusche (1996,668) refers to the related Antwerp glossary which has no determining englisc and suggests that the the adjective signifies the language of the gloss contrasting it from the similar L lemma rather than denoting a specific species.
