  • Comment on (A): Anthemis arvensis L., corn chamomile, Acker-Hundskamille

    There are different species loosely identifyed as 'chamomile'. One possible identification is A. arvensis; cf. for example Laud 376 (CAMEMILON .I. CALANNA UEL PUTRIDA. UEL mageþe) and the respective note.

  • Comment on (A): Anthemis cotula L., stinking chamomile, Stinkende Hundskamille

    There are different species loosely identifyed as 'chamomile'. One possible identification is A. cotula L.; cf. for example Laud 376 (CAMEMILON .I. CALANNA UEL PUTRIDA. UEL mageþe) and the respective note. (HERBA) PUTRIDA (L PUTRIDUS 'stinking, stinkend') refers to the bad smell of A. arvensis and especially A. cotula.

  • Comment on (A): Chamaemelum nobile (L.) All., chamomile, Römische Kamille

    There are different species loosely identifyed as 'chamomile'. One possible identification is C. nobile; also cf. Hunger (1935,167): L CAMEMELON = C. nobilie; CAMEMELON = CHAMAEMELON (André 1985, s.v.).

  • Comment on (B): Matricaria recutita L., scented mayweed, Echte Kamille

    BENEOLENS = M. recutita (cf. André 1985, s.v.).

  • Comment on (C): Leucanthemum vulgare (Lam.) DC., oxeye daisy, Magerwiesen-Margerite

    BUCSTALMUM = BUPHTHALMUM ('ox-eye, Ochsenauge'); OBTALMON, OPTALMON seems to be a short BUOPTALMON. In Dioscurides (cf. Berendes 1902,353) the name denotes the mediterranean plant Glebionis coronaria L., crown daisy, Kronen-Wucherblume, but it is also recorded as an old name of L. vulgare (cf. Marzell 2000,1,957).[1] The L lemmata CALANNA, CALUNA, CULUNA are not clear.
