  • Comment on (A): Nigella L., fennel flower, Schwarzkümmel

Recorded in the DOE s.v. giþ-corn as L form. Either N. arvensis L., wild fennel, Acker-Schwarzkümmel, or N. sativa L., black onion seed, Echter Schwarzkümmel, which both share the old name GIT(H) and which both originate from southern Europe (cf. Marzell 2000,3,318 and 325).

Etymology: L GIT(H); OE gitte could be an analogous formation to the many plant names that are n-decl.
