Probably not OE; not recorded in the DOE. Inserted between two L lemmata: Laud 949: MARUBIE .I. hune; 951: MASTICA .I. hwittudo. Stracke (1974) lists gid only in the L index; but c.f. the considerably different entries 734: GITTI .I. MELANTIUM and 998: MELANTIA .I. GITTER. André (1985) quotes these froms as L s.v. GIT, also cf. MELANT(H)ION, and →gitte.
Either N. arvensis L., wild fennel, Acker-Schwarzkümmel, or N. sativa L., black onion seed, Echter Schwarzkümmel, which both share the old name GIT(H) and which both originate from southern Europe (cf. Marzell 2000,3,318 and 325).
