Stracke (n.697) assumes: "FELGERIA may be compared with Italian felceguercina," but a connection to vulgar L FILICARIA seems more plausible. Cf. Schlutter (1909,504): "Brüssler Codex 1828-30 fol. 56 recto [...] FILEX.FILICIS HERBA.I. felchére. [...] felchére ist altfrz. und beruht auf lat. FILICARIA". Also cf. L FELGEROLA which according to Varnhagen (1902,5) occurs in MS Dresden Dc 185 several times and which is a latinised form of OFr. *felgierole (which goes back to L FILICARIA).

Cf. the gloss FILIX ARBORATICA, eferfearn (WW 135/10), where the L lemma refers to the habitat of the plant: "Ziemlich häufig an schattigen Abhängen, an Felsen oder Mauern [...] zuweilen auch epiphytisch auf Stämmen oder in Kronen der Bäume" (Hegi 1906,1,41).[1] LB 39/36 eoforfearn uppe an trēowe: P. vulgare L. The description of the plant in HA XXXV exactly matches that of P. vulgare. All L forms recorded in the glosses denote ferns, especially P. vulgare (cf. André, s.v. FILICULA); only FELGERIA is unclear.[2]
