Banham (1990,134) notes: "crop, in this instance at last, means 'buds'", referring to another passage in the LB: nim ellenes blostman 7 þone crop wyl on buteran (Cockayne 1961,II,103), arguing that flowers and fruit might not be available at the same time, even if they were (e.g. in dried form) we do not have enough evidence to prove it adequately. In this context crop could indicate the whole 'umbel of elder flowers', i.e. including the stalks, and not only the single flowers.
