    Deegan (1988,315) identifies this plant as 'Roman coriander, Nigella sativa L., a plant native to Southern Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Asia. Deegan states: "It would probably not have been grown in Anglo-Saxon England, but the dried seeds could easily have been imported." Cf. →rind, sūþerne.
