The MS has eced berǵ; Cockayne reads (1961,II,356): eced bergen and translates "let the man taste [...] vinegar"(1961,II,357), in my opinion, he interpretes berǵ as a form of the verb bergan, byrgan (cf. BT, s.v.) 'taste, kosten'.
