Cf. Klotz (1879, s.v. GLANS): 'Eichel und jede eichelartige Frucht, Buchecker'. The DOE also suggests 'mast' as possible meaning.
PD: On CUM GLANDIS FARINA (lat. GLANS 'acorn, beechnut, Eichel, Ecker), FARINA 'Mehl von Getreide oder von anderen Dingen'); cf. Georges (2007, s.v.v.); it could stand for 'acorn flour, Mehl von Eicheln' and would equate OE →āc-melu; æcern then is a free (but inaccurate) translation, not uncommon for the PD. But it should be considered that L GLANS is polysemous (cf. Georges, s.v.: "jede Kernfrucht, also Dattel, Kastanie, Walnuß usw., bes. die Eichel, Ecker") and therefore needs a closer definition. So one could draw the conclusion that the translator confused L FARINA ('flour, Mehl') with L FAGINA ('beech, Buche'; cf. Georges) and left it untranslated because for him æcern denoted 'beechnut', too. On the combination of acorn and beechnut also cf. BTC, s.v. æcern: "GLANDES UEL FAGINA, æcern ne boc, Chrd.15,10." Also cf. the FAGE ARBORIS GLAN[D]E of the Glasgow Antidotarium (Sigerist 1923,160) and →flysma.
