Not recorded in BT(SC); cf. BT, s.v. þēorwyrt. On the form þyorwyrt cf. Grattan / Singer (1952,212): "Ws. eo by breaking. There is in our text no trace of an eWS and Nhb. io, nor of Angl. smoothing. Whether þyorwyrt 158b is a late variant of this vowel or of long ēo is uncertain". The form ēo is supported by the context: þēordrænc. Cockayne's identification and his reference to G Dürrwurz, Inula conyza (→þēor-wyrt) is not valid as the name Dürrwurz was created artificially (cf. MarzeII 2000,II,1010).
