    Cf. Storms 1946,327: "swegles æppel; 'swail's apple'. It is uncertain what plant is meant. Cockayne suggests beetle nut."

    Etymology: to OE swegel 1. 'heaven, Himmel', 2. 'music, Musik' ? Also cf. →æppel (2).
