  • Comment on (A): Allium schoenoprasum L., chives, Schnittlauch

Compound of →secg, Carex L., and →lēac, Allium L.; cf. Hegi (1906,II,223): "Nach den schmalen gras- oder binsenartigen Blättern [...] heißt diese Lauchart [...] Beeslook (Beese = Binsen) (Bremen, Schleswig)." Also cf. the species epithet schoenoprasum, which is related to Gk σχοίνος 'rush, Binse' and Gk πράσον 'leek, Lauch' (Hegi, ibid.).
