    Cf. Dur NERETA seaminte. According to Lindheim NERETA is erroneous for NEPETA. The literal translation 'lake-, sea-, marsh-mint; See-, Meeres-, Sumpf-Minze' does not go with N. cataria; sæminte, though, could be derived from an older form, cf. Marzell (2000,III,311, s.v. Nepeta cataria): "In den Glos­sen und älteren Vokabularien wird unsere Art allgemein als 'Minze'(Mentha) an­gesprochen. Wie weit die unten angeführten N.n. für die Katzenminze gelten, läßt sich schwer feststellen, siminta 'nepeta' (nd. 10.Jh.) ahd. Gl.5,43,7/ siminza, siminze, simzo u.a. 'nep(e)ta' ahd. Gl. (seit dem 10.Jh.): Björkm. 6,190/ sumintte 'kattenkrut, nepita' Schill.Lübb.4,468/ sumute (?) vel kattemynta 11. Jh."

    The determinative sæ- matches the habitat of A. officinalis (cf. →mersc-mealwe) but the primary word -minte does not; moreover A. officinalis does not share any names with Metha species. But the indication in the LB (against cough) would support an identification with A. officinalis.
