    Cf. Lindsay (1921,109): "BARIULUS (for VARIOLUS ?): ragufinc (? the chaf-finch, which builds its nest of lichen and is a 'little bird of many colours'". SCUTACUS, -ATIS is not recorded anywhere else; the closest phonetic relation is PSITTACUS (G Sittich), 'Papagei' (cf. various names like SITACUS, SITATUS, etc. in Diefenbach (1857, s.v. PSITTACUS).
