    LACTUCA LEPORINA, according to Hunger (1935,168), is Lactuca muralis Fresen, wall lettuce, Mauer-Lattich (cf. G Hasenlattich, Marzell 2000,II,1145); according to André (1985, s.v.) it denotes Chondrilla juncea L., naked weed / skeletonweed, Binsen-Knorpellat­tich. Kindschi sees the source for SARRABUM in Is. 17,10,11: LACTUCA AGRESTIS EST QUAM SERRALIAM [VAR. SARRALIAM] NOMINAMUS, QUOD DORSUM EIUS IN MODUM SERRAE ES; SARRALIA = Lactuca serriola L., prickly lettuce / wild lettuce, Echter Lattich / Stachel-Lat­tich (cf. André 1985, s.v.).

    Banham (1990, 216) suggests native forms which have been taken into cultivation: Lactuca serriola oder Lactuca virosa L, bitter lettuce, Gift-Lattich; the plant name should not be identifyed with Lactuca sativa L., garend-lettuce, Gartenlattich.
