Etymology: Lit. 'crow leek, Rabenlauch'; there seems no obvious reason for this plant name. But cf. ME crowlek 'crow leek, Krähenlauch', which translates ML SATURION MINOR, cf. Agnus Castus: SATURION MINOR is an herbe þat men clepuþ crowlec (Brodin 1950,202). On the meaning of 'crow leek' cf. MED s.v. 'croue' and NED s.v. 'crow-leek'; on naming motivation cf. Ryden (1989,281ff.).
