  • Comment on (A): ? Asarum europaeum L., asarabacca, Gewöhnliche Haselwurz

Cf. NHG 'Haselwurz', ModE 'hazelwort', Dan. 'hasselurt', Sw. 'hasselört' (Marz. 2000,1,458). UILOA PURPUREA is not recorded anywhere else for A. europaeum, but the color of the blossoms is appropriate[1], additionally, in Anglo-Saxon times UILOA does not only denote 'Viola L.' but a number of fragrant flowers (cf. note on Dur 334); also cf. s.v. →bān-wyrt.

Etymology: Probably a reinterpretation of L ASARUM (cf. Marzell 2000,1,458).
