    Identification based on LB 22/33: Eft IUNIPERI, þæt is gorst þæt sæd. For the LB only this interpretation is possible.

    Cf. Lindheim's note on Dur 326: L TRIBULUS denotes several thorny plants. The source of HA CXLII is Dioscorides IV,15 (cf. Berendes 1902,374) where he describes two species of TRIBOLOS: Tribulus terrestris L., cat's head, Burzeldorn, and Trapa natans L., water chestnut, Wassernuss, both not native to the British Isles. A substitution with plants locally available is comprehensible; some medications listed by Grieve (1971, s.v.) do match those in HA CXLII. Nevertheless, the identification for HA should be T. terrestris.

    HERBA IRAS = ? 'thorny plant, dornige Pflanze'; cf. Diefenbach (1867, s.v. IRA).The L lemmata AC(C)IDINETUM, and UOLUMA are not documented anywhere.

    The following occurrences are not botanical (cf. BTC, s.v. gorst): AEGESTA gors: Cp 101 (A 328), Cp 105; EGELLA gorst: HlOl E 157. Cf. Wynn 1961,918): "One may compare Vulgate, Deut., xxiii.12: EGESTA HUMO OPERIES (= cover up your excrement with earth), which Lindsay, CEEL,p.106, thinks is the source of the gloss. It is therefore likely [...] that gors is some form of OE. gor 'dung'."
