    Identification based on ME references, where Iris florentina L. (= Iris x germanica subsp. albicans (Lange) O. Bolòs et Vigo; not native to GB) is indicated: cf. Brodin (1950,164) "Ireos is an herbe þat men clepe fane þis herbe hagt lewys lyk to þe flourdelys and it hagt a quyt flour", and (1950,274) "Ireos = Iris florentina L."; also cf. Hunt (1989, Index of vernacular plants, s.v. fane). The L lemmata are not clear.
