    Identification based on the plant's habitat near the water; also cf. →wæter-wyrt. The primary word refers to its use against liver complaints, an indication also recorded in the LB.

    Ealifer is the literal meaning of an old name for R. aquatilis, HEPATICA AQUATICA (cf. Marzell 2000,3,1239). The L lemmata CALISTRICUS, CALITRICEM do not denote R. aquatilis but it seems possible that the use of the plant against loss of hair as recorded in HA (CALLITRICVM) led to the identification as R. aquatilis based on signature medicine: the floating stalks of the plant can be compared to hair floating in water (also cf. G Wassermannshaar, Haarkraut, etc.; Marz. 2000,3,1239). The synonym →wæter-wyrt also suits this identification: cf. G Waterblome, Bachkrut, etc. (Marzell 2000,3,12409.
