ML HYDROMELLUM denotes 'mead, Met' (Habel 1959, s.v.). The source for OE æppelwīn probably is Is. 20,3,11: HYDROMELUM, QUOD FIAT EX AQUA ET MALIS MATIANIS (our italics). The second part of the glos, OE beor, suggests a more general meaning, e.g. 'sweet, alcoholic beverages made from fruit, süßes, alkoholisches Getränk aus Früchten'.
