For the glosses we can assume a loan translation of CUCURBITA AGRESTIS, which is synonymous with BRYONIA, Bryonia L., bryony Zaunrübe, as well as COLOQUINTHIDA, Citrullus colocynthis Schrad., colocynth, Kolokynthe; cf., for example, CGL 6, s.vv. CUCURBITA AGRESTIS and C. SILVESTRIS; also cf. Marzell (2000,1,1028) who lists a lot of glosses, e.g.: "uilda churpizza 'colocynthidas' Ahd.Gl. 1,451,33 (seit dem 10. Jh.)".

Cf. n. 368: "The gourd, of course, is not a tree, but a climbing plant." Probably a wrong translation of SILVESTRIS in the model? Cf. cyrfæt, wilde.

Marzell (2000,I,683): "Bryonia L. [...] Zaunrübe Gattung der Kürbisgewächse mit rübenartig angeschwollener Wurzel"; p. 684 CUCURBITA AGRESTIS is listed as old name. Also cf. Förster, (1917,124,A.6): "Es ist mir daher zweifelhaft, ob bei wilde cyrfet mit Hoops, Waldbäume s. 602 wirklich an eine wildwachsende Art des "flaschenkürbis" (Cucurbita lagenaria) zu denken ist."
