  • Comment on (A): Carum carvi L., caraway, Wiesenkümmel

According to Hoops (1905,602f.) CYMEN was first used to denote C. cyminum, later C. carvi. In the LB it denotes the latter as →cymen, sūþerne is used to refer to C. cyminum. Deegan (1988,231) doubts this identification but gives no further explanation. Banham (1990,246) rejects that caraway and cumin share one name in OE, but does not provide any evidence to back up her argument.

  • Comment on (B): Cuminum cyminum L., cumin, Kreuzkümmel

Mainly in HA, PD; cf. →cymen, sūþerne.
