Cf. Laud 552: ERINGIUS.I. CARDO ROTUNDUS UEL CALCATREPA. HERACLEA is polysemous (cf. André 1985, s.v.) but none of the possible identificatio goes with a thistle species. On RAMNUS cf. →þēfan-þorn.
According to HEW (cf. s.v.) literally 'colt's trap, Füllenfalle'; the word is a secondary motivated by OE colt 'colt, Fohlen'.
