It is possible to assume an error in the glossing of MERCURIALIS, which might have happened in a pre-stage of the related glossaries, especially as the second gloss in Br,WW 297,30 →cerlic indicates that cedelc denoted Sinapis arvensis in Anglo-Saxon times. Also cf. →coydic. D'Aronco rejects this argument (1998,54).

The change of meaning from OE cedelc 'M. perennis' to (the obvious correspondent in) ME and ModE kedlock (OED), 'Sinapis arvensis' is not clear.
