    The identification is based on the context nim [...] þone bradan cawel nioþoweardne which might be a reference to the globular swelling of the root just above the ground. The ML name of kohlrabi is RAUA CAULIS, the plant denoted here must not be confused with todays garden plant: but it is it's early ancestor (cf. Fischer-Benzon 1998,110).
