    Cont.: MORARIUS begbeam UNDE MEROTA[1] DICTA, MORARIUS ETIAM CELSA UOCATUR, MORA HÆC COMMUNE NOMEN EST. MORARIUS = Morus nigra L. (cf. André, s.v.). Also cf. Marzell (2000,3,218), who notes on an old name for M. nigra, MORACELSI (=MORUS CELSA): "die hochwüchsige MORUS, im Gegensatz zu[m Namen] 'MORA BACCI' [...] der nur als niederer Strauch wachsen­den Brombeere". This meaning is also supported by the literal translation of the OE plant name: 'berry tree' (cf. DOE, s.v.).

    This meaning is suggested by ClH and HEW, s.v. beg as sole meaning and by BT as additional meaning for the OE lemma. They all base this decision on the WS gospel, Luke 20,37 where beigebeam[2] translates RUBRUM (Skeat 1871,196). We consider this an erroneous translation that can be traced back to the ambiguous RUBUS of Is. 17,7,19: MORUS A GRAECIS VOCATA, QUAM LATINI RUBUM APPELLANT.
