The glosses DIRIMUNTUR, I. DIUIDUNTUR ascilede (Ald VNa 1,1367), ascelede (Go 1395), REMOTIO ascylidre (Na 1,5434; Go 5308), etc. (also cf. Na 1,5410; 1,5448; Go 5285; 5322), which led to dictionary entries like āscilian 'to separate, divide' (cf. ClH, DOE s.v.), are wrong, at least when examined from a diachronic point of view. They might have originated (probably caused by some liquid-deficiency of the glossator?) from a confusion of āscirian 'to separate, divide' (cf. ClH, s.v.) and āscilian. Cf. AldVNa 1,5389: REMOTIS ascyredum; cf. further Na 1,361; 1366; 1963 and the glosses recorded by Goossens, 1974. Also cf. Klotz, s.v.: "ENUCLEO [...] von Kernen reinigen, entkernen, eigtl. d.
