    Identification based on L ALTEA, HIBISCUS; cf. Marzell (2000,II,850): "Lat. HIBISCUM und HIBISCUS [...] seit Vergil [...] Name des Eibisch."[1] FRAGA = Fragaria vesca L. (cf. →strēaw-berige); the gloss does not fit this L lemma, it probably belongs to L HIBISCUS because in HA the chapter on the strawberry (ch. XXXVIII: FRAGA ƀ is streawberge) immediately precedes the chapter on HIBISCUS (ch. XXXIX: HIBISCUS ƀ is merscmealwe). The glossator seems to have worked with the table of contents of the HA and must have overlooked HIBISCUS.

    Etymology: lit. 'marsh-mallow, Marsch-Malve'; cf. Marzell (1967,132) and his reference to the plant's habitat: "Hier und da wild wachsend an salzhaltigen Stellen (Meeresstrand, Salinen)." 'Mallow, Malve' refers to the plant's genus.
