In the Aldhelm context (Ald. 1.1013f.)[1] referred to by Stryker (cf. ClSt, B 118) L BUXUS means 'pale as boxwood' as it is an attribute to PALLOR (pallor, Blässe). Cf. Klotz (1879, s.v.) BUXEUS (PALLOR) und cf. OED, s.v. box (1), 2: "Pale as box sche was" (Chaucer). The phrase sio bixene indicates that the source of ClSt had a gloss to PALLOR; within a similar context[2] in ClSt, P 66 (WW 4465,32) PALLOR is glossed with blæco.
