Cf. Marzell (2000,4,103): "sayleßhail [selbstheil] [...] Vgl. engl. self-heal Britt.Holl. 423." Lindheim (cf. 1941,n. 297) regards the gloss as literal translation of SANICULA. OHG plant names with a comparable literal meaning are selpheila (cf. Bjorkman 1902,298), which denotes Euphrasia rostkoviana Hayne, eyebright, Augentrost, and selplacha Senecio vulgaris L., Kreuzkraut (cf. Bjorkman, ibid.). Marzell (2000,2,393) cannot explain the origin of these names.
