The gloss belongs to Is. 17,5,5: MALLEOLUS EST NOVELLUS PALMES INNATUS PRIORIS ANNI FLAGELLO, COGNOMINATUSQUE [...] QUOD [...] MALLEI SPECIEM PRAEBET. Also cf. Klotz (1879, s.v.): "'Schößling', 'Setzling in Hammergestalt'. The original gloss must have been sumerloda (cf. OHG sumarlota 'shoot, Schößling')[1], which was then transformed into sumerlida 'summer army, Sommerheer' (cf. ClH, s.v.). I cannot support Meritt's (1954,114) suggestion that an emendation from -lida to -loda is unnecessary because "the verb lideþ at Paris Psalter 91,11 [is] in a context[2] concerning the growth of trees". Līdeþ (with i-umlaut; cf. Sievers-Brunner 1965,§107) is related to the strong verb lēodan 'grow, wachsen' (cf. ClH, s.v. līdeþ) and therefore only a form -lode (from the zero-grade stem with a-umlaut) is possible.
